Translation Rates

eQualC usually calculates translation rates based on the number of characters (kanji/hiragana/katakana/Chinese characters) or English words in the original document that is to be translated (the source language). This is to prevent the temptation of overly verbose translations, ensuring that the end product is always succinct and clear.

On request, it is possible for us to calculate translation rates by the number of characters or words in the final translated document (the target language), or by hourly rates for certain types of projects.

• Technicality – The rate for technical content (e.g., legal, academic, IT, engineering, scientific) is 25% higher than general content.
• Requested deadline – For rush jobs involving weekend or evening work there is a 50% increase over the basic rate.
• Research time – If the translation involves a lot of research, or there is a large volume of proper nouns, specific terms or terminology, the costs are higher.
• Document format – Most translations are in a Word-compliant format or html. Translation rates vary for other document types depending on the level of formatting involved.
• Proofreading & editing – Varying standards of proofreading and editing (such as a full bilingual check versus a single monolingual check) incorporate additional charges.
